摘要

Many young people in Brazil choose technical education to reach professional qualification. The Paula Souza State Center of Technological Education (CEETEPS) defines three curriculum axes for the course on Environment: Earth Science, Biology and Chemistry. The technical course aims to develop behavioral skills and techniques that help the worker to operationalize production processes and properly manage professional activities. The Geosciences discipline, currently called Practice in Earth Sciences, stands out in the scenario of Brazilian high schools, because it caters specifically to technical training. However, CEETEPS has enabled a wide range of teachers for the discipline. Up to 28 different qualifications have been accepted in technical courses in Environment, from engineers to technicians. This factor hinders the development potential of Geosciences in high school and compromises the competence of technicians trained. This article summarizes discipline skills that should be developed, as well as teacher profiles that can be able to take this responsibility. It is necessary to reduce the list, but the job opportunity should be widely publicized so that geologists and other Earth Sciences graduates incorporate teaching in their regular professional options and apply their knowledge and skills in teaching-learning, towards meeting the demands of the job market.
